View to the summit of Kit Hill. The chimney stack is from South Kithill Mine which was worked from 1856 to 1884 mining deposits of tin, copper, arsenic and wolfram.
Now all part of the Kit Hill country park the area is still littered with mine and quarry workings so not straying too far off the paths is recommended.
The hill itself is 34 m (1,096 ft) high rising 171 m (561 ft) from the area below. This qualifies Kit Hill as one of only 4 Marilyns in Cornwall. The name 'Kit' is derived from Old English for Kite, meaning a bird of prey.
