Looking out past the ruined engine house of Wheal Edward to the iconic Crown engine house at the bottom of Botallack's rugged cliffs.

The shafts from the engine houses at Botallack went out nearly a mile under the sea floor. It was in one such neighbouring shaft, in 1893, that the sea broke through drowning 20 miners. A thought that still fills me with horror.
