Paul sits proudly on the hill behind the fishing village of Mousehole, its centrepiece the 15th century church reputedly founded in the 5th century by the Celtic saint, St Pol de Leon. The main church for both villages, it contains some interesting elements from a memorial to the crew of the Penlee lifeboat lost in 1981 to evidence of the 16th century sacking of the church at the hand of Spanish marauders.
The last Cornish speaker Dolly Pentreath of Mousehole is also remembered here in a memorial attributed to a relative of Napoleon. She died in 1778 at the ripe old age of 102.
