At nearly 200 metres (600ft) above sea level Sancreed Beacon commands spectacular views of Mount's Bay and the West Cornwall landscape. This is probably why the ancients chose it as a sacred place. This undulating terrain is created by burial mounds at the very summit of the beacon.

In more recent history the hilltop was used to light fires to warn of the approaching Spanish Armarda.
