Lanyon Quoit Halo

Lanyon Quoit Halo

Lanyon Quoit, high on the moors above Madron in West Cornwall. This is one of the most iconic megalithic structures in Cornwall, even though it is not quite original. The original Stone Age structure consisted of four legs but the quoit was toppled by a great storm back in 1815. When it was re-erected it was shorter and had one less leg. However, you can still wonder at how Neolithic engineers managed to get the 13 ton capstone on top, 3,000 years ago.

I'm not sure what the halo effect is in the photo - it is a pretty mystical spot though...
