Gillan Cove

On the south side of the inlet where the Lizard meets the Helford area lies the tiny village of Gillan, probably from the Cornish 'gilenn' for nook or creek. Both this and its neighbour Flushing (not to be confused with Flushing on the Fal estuary) are probably best approached on foot as neither is really designed for 20th century traffic. The Tregildry Hotel offers good food and accommodation.

Due to its being off the beaten track and ill-served by public transport, this whole area is a bit of an unspoilt gem where times seems to stand still, but whereas this is a quiet, rural idyll with great walks, there is a distinct lack of amenities and places to eat, drink or stay – though this may be exactly what some seek.
