Land's End - First and Last House - 1900s

The "First and Last" house at Land's End, as it was at the turn of the century. Strictly speaking the building was never a house; it was built in the late 1800s for Gracie Thomas who ran it as a souvenir shop selling small pieces of granite stamped with Land's End.

Things have moved on a bit since then. Now the tat stamped with Land's End is made in China and you can also buy a pasty from the shop - which are actually genuinely Cornish.

Whilst the front of the building is little changed today, the building has been sneakily extended to the rear to more or less double the retail space and add a toilet block, as you can see from this recent photo: http://www.cornwalls.co.uk/photos/unspoilt-lands-house-3283.htm Possibly the 'First and Last extension'...
