The famous 'Mermaid chair' in St Senara's church in Zennor. the chair relates to the legend of the Mermaid of Zennor. The chair shows the mermaid with long flowing hair, holding a mirror in one hand and a comb in the other. The story goes that the mermaid fell in love with local lad, Mathew Trewella. Mathew eventually forsook his earthly ways and took to the sea to live happily ever after with his mermaid. The Mermaid chair itself is believed to date back to the fifteenth-century. There is some debate as to whether the chair was inspired by the legend or the legend inspired by the chair.
