The Percuil River is a charmingly unspoilt and navigable tributary of the River Fal. The picturesque town of St Mawes lies at the mouth of the river, whose wooded banks are managed by the National Trust.

There are regular ferries to St Mawes from Falmouth during the summer months, and further ferries shuttle across the Percuil River, linking St Mawes with Place on the Roseland Peninsula, saving walkers on the coast path an eight mile detour.

In 2008 the Percuil River was the site of the biggest ever mass stranding of dolphins. Twenty-one animals died after entering the shallow waters of the river for unknown reasons.
