Tolcarne beach is the closest to Newquay town centre and, along with Great Western and Towan, is more sheltered than Fistral beach around the headland. Tolcarne is well known amongst bodyboarders as the location of "the Wedge", a super-heavy wave that only breaks during huge swells.
Given its proximity to the town Tolcarne is a popular choice in the summer.
