One of the 3 arches that run under the landward end of Smeaton's Pier in St Ives.

The arches were added to the pier towards the end of the 1800s to allow the passage of sand out of the harbour and prevent silting. Since those days priorities have changed and the sand is seen as a positive. Hence the addition of timber baulks to prevent the outflow.
