Best Restaurants and Cafes in Cornwall

Over the past couple of decades Cornwall has propelled itself to being one of the UK's go-to foodie destinations. It stands to reason when you think about how much fish and seafood is landed here, and this is what tends to dominate the menu.

Along with fantastic coastal locations and plenty of quality local produce, the allure of super-fresh fish has led to a host of celebrity chefs following Rick Stein down to Cornwall. The likes of Paul Ainsworth and Michael Caines have both set up shop here over recent years - but it's not only Michelin Stars and fine dining. Think chilled out beach cafes, country pubs with a roaring open fire and fish doesn't have to be haute cuisine - we've got plenty of good chippys too!

    The Turk's Head - Penzance

Set on Penzance’s historic Chapel Street the Turk’s Head lays claim to being the oldest pub in town with a tavern of some sort located here since the 13th century. This cosy pub was once the haunt of sea dogs and smugglers with stories of a hidden tunnel leading directly to the harbour.

The tunnel and contraband may have gone but the pub still serves a fine selection of local ales and retains plenty of olde worlde charm.

The Turk’s Head has long been known for its pub lunches and in particular its crab sandwiches. Evening meals are also served with standard pub grub along with a few seafood specials. In the summer the courtyard garden at the rear of the pub is an option.

Food served 7 days a week. 12 noon to 2.30pm and 6pm to 9pm. Vegan options available.

Located right on Flushing`s fish Quay, just across the water from Falmouth, The Waterside is aptly named. Chefs Paul Arrow "Paulo", Tom Beanland "Beano" & Joe Wesley aim to provide you with a range of seafood dishes plus vegetarian options and a selection of locally sourced meats. An extensive wine and drinks list always available from the licensed bar.

Offerings include tapas, fresh fish and shellfish and traditional Roasts along with a range of homemade desserts. Menus change daily and are based around the catch of the day - three local boats land directly onto Flushing Quay - you don't get much more locally sourced than that!
