Located on the A394 Helston - Penzance road, the name Ashton means 'the place of the ash tree' although the particular reason for this is not obvious. In the past Ashton was a reasonably affluent, busy village supporting no less than four chapels. None of these are used as places of worship anymore.
Besides a pub, the Lion & Lamb and a post office there isn't really much to do in Ashton. Nearby Germoe and Tregonning Hill, with it's far reaching views, are worth investigating.
