Higher Trefrize is converted from a traditionally built stable to the very highest standards throughout by the owners, who run their own craftsman building business. It has been specifically designed to give the very best in comfort and cosiness to couples looking for the perfect quiet place to get away from it all in the countryside. Local, natural materials are everywhere, from the beautiful entrance door made in the owner's workshop to the wood of the windows - although the kitchen worktops did come all the way from Devon. There's a fully-equipped kitchenette. a living room with a cosy wood wood burner, a double bedroom, and a toilet / shower room. Outside, through the French windows. there's your own little garden and a wooden veranda which gives you a front row seat for each beautiful Cornish sunset. Don't worry if you don't want to light the wood burner - there's cosy under floor heating throughout.
The cottage at Higher Trefrize is far from any main road, on a hillside looking over idyllic Cornish countryside, with the owners home nearby. It is reached via an unmade road - and there are no street lights! There'll be a Cornish cream tea for you when you arrive. The only sounds are countryside sounds as you watch another lovely sunset from the veranda. The cottage is perfectly situated in the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and on the edge of historic Bodmin Moor, rich in history and myth, It's beside a little used footpath which gives you access to ancient woodland, and a field that has been recently planted with 2,000 broadleaf trees. The land has never been ploughed (due to the steepness), so there are numerous wild flowers. Wildlife is encouraged (there are birdfeeders which they would like you to fill). From the balcony you can watch and listen for foxes, buzzards, owls and deer. There's an incredible range of things to see and do within a very short distance - or you can just bring a good book, light the wood burner and sit back and enjoy the peace and quiet. Higher Trefrize is situated between the two coasts (approximately 20 miles each way) for walking the coastal path and beaches. Small or medium-sized dogs are welcome. There is a small, enclosed garden. You are able to exercise dogs in the steep field, though this has no fencing so they must be kept under control as there is usually livestock nearby.
We are proud to be Business Supporters of Cornwall Wildlife Trust. As Cornwall's only local wildlife charity, the Trust carries out vitally important conservation and educational work throughout the county. Our support helps the Trust manage 55 nature reserves, providing refuge for nationally rare and endangered species. Cornwall Wildlife Trust also runs a number of conservation projects across the county, on land and in our seas. We are very happy to help raise much needed funds for the Trust, so it can continue to protect Cornwall's wildlife and wild places, now and for the future.
