Portholland is divided into two parts; East and West. Both are tiny clusters of houses with few amenities, and are joined by twin beaches which are joined only at low tide.

Nearby Gothic styled Caerhays Castle was designed and built between 1805 and 1807 by the same man responsible for the famed Brighton Pavilion, John Nash. Its gardens are famous for award winning magnolias. Opposite, Porthluney Cove is a perfect beach for families with public amenities and safe swimming.
