Sams The Other Place - Fowey

please bear in mind there are 2 restaurants being reviewed here. I have eaten in both many times.

one is 'Sam's'. this is a relaxed but usually very busy and exciting place to eat. it is great. the food is reasonble and the portions are huge. no bookings are taken - it works on a first come, fist served basis.

the second restaurant (not ot be confused with Sam's, but is by lots of people -including reviewers on here) is called 'the other place'. it used to be called 'Sam's other place' as the owner of the original restaurant (Sam) set up tius new restaurant and called it Sam's other place. Sam has now sold it and it is now called 'the other place'. It is above an excellent (the best by a million miles) fish and chip shop. do not be put off. It is one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in. Itr is best to book a table here.It is more formal than Sam's but still much less stiff than some of the other restaurants in Fowey such as food for thought etc (and much cheaper). Fish is the speciality. if you have not been then you are missing out. I'm going next week!

What a fantastic place to eat, we had to wait for a table but who cares we had a drink in our hands and the atmosphere was elecric, not a place to go for a quite meal.
The food was fantastic and the portions were huge dont have 2 courses unless you are ready to eat a mountain of food. Will be going again in the near future.

brilliant as usual - great value, great service, great food. if you are thinking of going to some of the more expensive celebrity orientated restaurants in cornwall, think again and go here instead.

We discovered Sams in June 2006. We went in and were told 45 mins for a table. Looked around so many people waiting thought it must be worth waiting for. It was! We went back the following two nights. Brilliant. Funky, fun, great staff and of course wounderful food. Glad to hear that it is open all year round!

Sam's Fowey

I read with some surprise the negative comments posted by one reviewer. The atmosphere there is definitely laid back. The queues outside are testament to the popularity of the restaurant. If diners are seeking a quiet, refined restaurant, they should go elsewhere. If they want to eat somewhere where the food is good, the atmosphere sometimes electric, where the sounds of people enjoying themselves is sometimes deafening, where the music is sometimes too loud, then go to Sam's. But be warned, you might have to wait some time for a table. But thats part of the experience. All those people can't be wrong!

Don't know about the food but the attitude is lacking!

We tried to book a table here in September. Fine they don't take bookings. However, the attitude of the manager (or whoever it was) was just plain condesending and arrogant. Basically seemed like the subtext was we're so busy we don't need to be polite, you could wait up to an hour for a table but we'd rather you didn't as you haven't got a yacht!

Please feel free to correct me if you have had a different experience!
