Nicely presented restaurant with prime location overlooking the sea. Food is generally of good quality, serving a mix of contemporary styles and seafood dishes. (3129 views)

The Old CoastGuard Restaurant - Mousehole

This place has varied widely in quality over the years but now seems to have really found its stride under Bill Treloar's management. It has gone decidedly upmarket and improved the slack/diffident/dreckly service that I invariably experienced in the past. On my last visit the food was excellent and the service great apart from the head waiter who seemed to think that we came there to spend the evening talking to him. It is by local standards a bit pricey but as with all things in life you get what you pay for, and as Penzance was built with its back to the sea, there aren't many quality restaurants in West Penwith with sea views. The wine recommendations were excellent. However, I hope that the rumours of high staff turnover and experienced local kitchen staff being replaced with Eastern Europeans on minimum wage are not true....

The Coastie, as it is affectionately known, sits just off the road into Mousehole, with a car park [just about the only parking in the village]and serves top brasserie food all day with a slight change of emphasis when the lights go down.Voted best dining pub of 2003, it really has lost the 'pub'feel altogether now, and although not formal, it is recognisably a food driven enterprise. Inventive additions appear all the time to tempt the taste buds and range from Mediterranean to Pacific rim & back. Sitting with friends in the garden overlooking the sea or in the cosy bar in the winter, its laid back approach to dining can't be beaten.
