River Par at Luxulyan Valley

The River Par as at cascades through Ponts Mill in the Luxulyan Valley. The river rises on the southern edge of Bodmin Moor and flows out into St Austell Bay at Par (hence the name).

Hard to imagine, but in the 18th century Ponts Mill was actually a port with vessels up to 80 tons able to dock here. And they did as this was close to some of Cornwall's most important early tin and copper mines.

Today the river forms a centrepiece of the thickly wooded Luxulyan Valley which stretches from the village of Luxulyan to St Blazey.
