St Hilary Church

St Hilary Church
Description:
St Hilary parish church, dedicated to St Hilary of Poitiers, a 4th century Bishop.

The current church mostly dates back to 1855 as the original church was almost completely destroyed by fire on Good Friday of 1853.

The 78 foot tower and spire survived the fire and form part of the current church.

Over the last 200 years the church has suffered from neglect and it was only in the 19702 that the 'Friends of St Hilary' carried out significant restoration work, which is still ongoing.
