Giew Mine - Cripplesease

The engine house of Giew Mine is set in a prominent position atop Trink Hill in Cripplesease, between Penzance and St Ives. The building housed a 50" pumping engine in its day, the purpose of which was to remove the water from "Frank's Shaft" which sunk nearly 1,500ft below.

Built in 1871 the mine was worked until 1923, the last of the St Ives Consolidated mines, and one of the last in Cornwall.

You can just make out the metal window frame in the upper window, which I'm not sure you will find in other engine houses. The lower windows were blocked up when the engine house was used as an ore bin after it ceased mining work.
