Ding Dong engine house is part of what was a large mining area high on the moors stretching from Madron to Newmill. This engine house worked the Tredinneck Shaft to the east of the lode whilst the better known is the Greenburrow engine house towards Madron Carn.

The name never ceases to amuse but its origins are uncertain. One theory is it refer to the 'head of the lode', i.e. the outcrop of tin on the hill.
