Topic: dog friendly beaches

Does anyone know of any dog friendly beaches near to Falmouth - in July? the nearest we can find so far is 20 miles away.
Are there any coves nearby which are not public beaches so that we can take our dog there?
We are staying just 2 miles west of Falmouth, the nearest beach to us will be Swanpool.

Thanks

Re: dog friendly beaches

Hi. We're currently on holiday with our dog at Mawnan Smith, a few miles from Swanpool, so have got to know the area fairly well. Between Maenporth Beach and Durgan there are a few little beaches where your dog can run free and the water is crystal clear. Park at Mawnan Church and walk down past the churchyard and take the coast path back towards Rosemullion Head and you'll find a nice shingle beach about 10 minutes from the car. Another is about 10 minutes walk down a lovely wooded track next to Carwinnion Gardens in Mawnan Smith and is well worth a trip. A visit to Trebah Gardens is great, dogs on leads but very dog friendly with private beach. If you go to St Mawes on the ferry the beach right next to the castle (difficult to spot the path down but its by the car park) is ok for a paddle. Further afield we have been to Coverack on the Lizard, Caerhays (on leads but lovely), Watergate Bay (leads until youre away from the crowds) and today went to Carne and Pendower (again on lead but probably the nicest we have visited that allows dogs).  For eating out the Red Lion in Mawnan Smith, Pandora Inn and  Trengilly Wartha near Constantine have all been really welcoming for the dog with good food. Sure you'll have a great time! Sorry  for the formatting, joys of a mobile phone for internet access. We'll blog on www.prestonwalkies.blogspot.com when we get home next week.
