Topic: What is next for Cornwall?

I have been researching the Cornish industry. There has been mining and fishing which both hold little profit to no profit these days. There is still china clay and farming, but the biggest industry for Cornwall in the present day is tourism.

My question is, what is next for Cornwall?

Mining came and went, fishing came and is almost gone for most. Then there was tourism, but for how long?

My personal thoughts are that tourism has a much longer shelf life than mining and fishing because tourism doesn't take anything from the land which is in limited supply, like mining and fishing did.

Any thoughts?

I agree. I think that tourism has to be the main focus of industry in the area. It must be sustainable tourism too, i.e. controlled so that the tourists who visit the area don't damage it to the extent where potential tourists will be put off.

I would expect Cornwall to do well off tourism for a while yet. The recession and a wider conscience concerning ecological matters and the "carbon footprint" mean that people are more people are looking for domestic holidays.

I also believe that as a coastal area Cornwall will play an important role in renewable energy sources. There is plenty of opportunity for solar, wind and tidal energy in Kernow. The problem is finding a balance between tourism and producing new energies.
