Best places to visit

As there isn't too much choice going on here I thought I'd start a new topic with a slightly more upbeat tone. What are people's favourite places to visit in Cornwall? Any hidden gems out there? It doesn't have to be a beach, it can be anywhere that is worth a visit .

Two of my favourite places in Cornwall are Coverack and Flushing Cove. I have so many fond memories of both . As a child I used to think that Flushing was straight out of an Arthur Ransome book. Great times!

I am making an enquiry in reference to a pub which was open in Camborne in 1986. It was called The Basset Arms and the owners were Adam Hood and Veronica Ann Hood. I was wondering if this pub has changed names or is under a different manager now ?

Would you be able to let me know,

Thanks

Best Pasty in Cornwall

I'm a bit out of this one as I'm a veggie but from a West Cornwall perspective I hear McFadden's in St Just and Hampson's in Hayle do the best pasties around. Can't say I've tried either of these. I used to be quite partial to the pasties from Cindy's in Penzance but I'm sure these were made up the line somewhere. Lots of people used to rate Lavender's pasties by I never really liked these. Quite liked Philp's, but they were always treacherously hot and sometimes just too flaky.

As for veggie options, makes life much easier. I'll even eat a Warren's veggie pasty!

Cornwall's worst tourist attraction?

What do you reckon the worst tourist attraction in Cornwall is?

I'm going with Lands End because it's just a bunch of tat that happens to be on some cliffs that were once thought to be the most westerly point in the mainland UK.
At the end of the day you can find this level of sophistication and entertainment at a motorway service station and there are plenty of similarities!

But hey, that's just me. I thought the Eden Project was boring and I am currently studying a biology degree!

Lizard Point Parking Incident

Allow me to report an incident on 7 July 2011, around 2 PM, at the parking lot of “The Wave Crest Cafe at Lizard Point”.

A young man, wearing a uniform while sitting in a white car told me he had the impression that I didn’t want to purchase a parking ticket. I told him this impression was wrong. How could he tell, as I was still standing in the middle of the parking lot when he addresses me? Even if his impression had been correct, there is no reason to be as rude as he was.

I asked him why he was so unfriendly, especially given the fact that, obviously, he was dealing with a tourist from abroad. He said he had been polite. Well, if this was his way of being polite, I wonder what his rudeness would look like.

If he considered his behaviour appropriate why wouldn’t he provide me with his name? I asked him twice but he refused.

He then wanted to issue a ticket. I asked him on what charges. For speaking to him? As he became aware of this, he told me to leave the parking lot.
When I intended to feed to the parking meter, he insisted I would need to leave.

Bottom line: Only a deeply frustrated person would act like this and should probably not be in touch with the public at all: For his own sake, for the sake of Cornwall visitors, and for the sake of the community which, at the end of the day, is losing revenue and reputation.

Afterwards, I was told by the very polite park rangers at Kynance Cove that, time and again, quite a few other people have been complaining about the “officers” in charge at Lizard Point parking lot. Personally, of course, I will probably not come back to the “Wave Crest Cafe”. However, while I am aware of the fact that this is a private parking lot, it cannot be in the interest of Cornwall if visitors are being treated this way.

I love the UK, its beautiful landscape, and its friendly people. Therefore, I am taking the time to write this to you, as I thought you would want to know.

What is next for Cornwall?

I have been researching the Cornish industry. There has been mining and fishing which both hold little profit to no profit these days. There is still china clay and farming, but the biggest industry for Cornwall in the present day is tourism.

My question is, what is next for Cornwall?

Mining came and went, fishing came and is almost gone for most. Then there was tourism, but for how long?

My personal thoughts are that tourism has a much longer shelf life than mining and fishing because tourism doesn't take anything from the land which is in limited supply, like mining and fishing did.

Any thoughts?

Holman was also Mary's maiden name. They immigrated to Australia in the 1800s. William was born in Truro Cornwall in approximately 1831 and became a miner. they are all buried in a cemetery located in Waverley Sydney Australia. He went on to marry in Australia, at least twice. Has anyone any information.

Many Thanks

Roz
