Burncoose Nurseries and Gardens

Burncoose Nurseries and Garden are situated at Gwennap, not far from Redruth. The estate was purchased in the early 18th century by the Williams family, famous for the development of the gardens at Caerhays Castle. At Burncoose, the developed of the gardens did not really begin until almost a century later. In fact, most of the garden took shape during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

At one point, near one edge of the garden, is a pool surrounded by lovely Japanese maples and several bamboo plants. These are some of the plants dating from the earlier, Victorian planting of the garden. Most of the large walled gardens house the nurseries, a series of tunnels containing thousands of ornamental and exotic plants. Around the edge of the estate are a number of mature trees. These include what is reputed to be the tallest monkey puzzle tree in England and several Holm and Lucombe oak trees.
