The history behind Blue Monkey

Blue Monkey takes its name from 2 interesting historic periods:

Firstly, it used to be the village pub known as “The Blue Anchor” and one of its regular visitors when in dock was Nelson. He regularly frequented this watering hole and could be seen from the road dancing the night away, up in the first floor front room.

Secondly, it takes is name Monkey from the time when it was the cannon ball store supplying the fort. And the €œMonkey€ is the name given to the triangular formation the cannon balls were stacked in hence the name €œBlue Monkey€.

The beautiful Rame Peninsula

These historical fishing villages are unspoilt by time and are frequently winners of the ‘Best Kept Village’ award and a conservation area set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the villages are an artist’s dream.

Cawsand Bay offers the perfect place to drop anchor and is popular for swimming, windsurfing, water skiing, a tri-athlete’s dream training area.

A stunning walk will take you along the Coastal Path starting at Cremyll winding its way through the 800 acre Mount Edgcumbe Park, which according to the Shell Guide is probably the most beautiful in England. It continues along a breathtaking walk to the glorious Whitsand Bay, a great learners surfing beach and at low tide an excellent kite surfing bay. Just behind the bay is one of Cornwall’s most challenging and stunning Whitsand Bay links golf courses, open to the public.

From Cawsand beach, and just a few minutes walk from Blue Monkey, you can take a passenger ferry across to the city of Plymouth which offers an abundance of high street and independent shops, restaurants, cafés, bars, theatres & attractions to suit everyone.
