Nanpean is located four miles north-west of St Austell right in the heart of Cornwall's 'Clay Country'. The china clay industry has played a very significant part in the development of the area and a freight-only train still runs through Nanpean, transporting goods from the quarries to the sea.
Nanpean church was built in 1879 and is dedicated to St George-the-Martyr. There has been a school in the village since 1898.
